The 13th Century famous Islamic mystic and poet Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi, or commonly called Rumi, was and still is considered a saint. His poetry is famous and his writings are popular throughout the world. One of his strongest beliefs was that everything revolved, everything on the earth was revolving and through this motion you could get closer to be one with Allah. He believed the whirling motion of dance connected everything harmoniously; the heart, the mind, the body and embraces everyone with love. As the dervish spins, he is holding one hand up to the sky ready to receive blessings from Allah, which are communicated back down to the earth through the other hand, which is turned down. As they whirl there are beautiful and impassioned chants being sung from the Quran, sealing the union back with Allah.
