Located 40km from Antalya, Aspendos is a Greco-Roman city founded in 1000 BC by Greeks thought to be from Argos. It fell under Persian rule, before Cimon took the city back. Alexander the Great negotiated terms with the people of the city, enforcing heavy taxes on the locals in return for not conquering the city. Aspendos was one of the first cities to start minting coins.
