After a lazy start to the morning, breakfast in Gokkaya and maybe another swim, we will head over to Demre. Demre otherwise known as Kale is very rich in history and has ruins and historical sites scattered throughout. We will first go visit the Ancient City of Myra. Here we will have a fully guided tour through the impressive ruins. Not only where St Nicholas spent some of his life helping out those in need, Myra was also one of the most important cites in the Lycian Union. They believe that the ruins date back further than 5th Century B.C. After Myra we will visit St Nicholas Church. Again we will have a fully guided tour throughout the structure that is believed to have housed the remains of St Nicholas before Italian merchants stole his remains back in 1087 and took them to Italy. You will then be given some free time in Demre to wander through the shops around the church to pick up some souvenirs special to this area. On our way back to the boat, we will stop in at Andreake Harbour for a fully guided tour of the area. This was Myras Harbour and an important one for vessels passing between Egypt and Rome. Emperor Hadrian visited here in 131 AD and built a he granary that is still standing today. We will then have dinner and spend the night on the boat in Tersane Bay.
