The second place in Turkey to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Goreme Open Air Museum is a must-see for all travellers to Cappadocia. Located just 1.5km from Goreme village, the many rock-carved churches still contain original frescoes that have retained their colour over the years. Constructed between the 10th and 12th centuries, these incredible places of worship have been carved intricately from the rocks, and sit side by side. There are a total of 10 churches, as well as rectories, dwellings and a school, which formed a monastic complex.
