After Mt Erciyes erupted several times, this 16km long gorge formed creating a unique valley, which saw the first Christian settlers escaping Roman soldiers. Throughout the valley are hidden rock dwellings and churches. A small stream also flows through the valley offering a fresh water supply to its inhabitants.
