Harem of Topkapi Palace

The highlight of the Topkapi Palace is with out a doubt, the Harem. The living quarters of the Sultan, his family and his concubines, the Harem is unarguably a masterpiece of perfection. With over 300 rooms the Harem housed the Sultan and his family in complete privacy. The rooms were elegantly decorated with Iznik and Kutahya ornate tiles in blue, turquoise and red colours. There are guilder mirrors and stunning stain glass windows. As you wander through the extravagant rooms of the harem, you can only begin to wonder what secrets these walls hold and what an indulgent life the Sultan and his family would have had.
