Kutahya

Kutahya, once the Capital of the Germiyan Emirate in 1302 - 1428, it was later taken over by the Ottoman Empire. It became well known for its famous locally made kiln products which included pottery and tiles. The history of this local art, dates back to 1514 when Selim I moved all his tile artists to Kutahya to work. The tiles and pottery are unique and very colourful. Many examples of the beautiful tiles can be found within the Topkapi Palace Harem.
