Mardin which sits in the south eastern pocket of Turkey is an eclectic mix of those that surround them now and in times past. The architecture displays the influence of Kurdish, Yezidi, Christian and Syrian alike and there are some exquisite rock carved pieces in the churches and mosques throughout the town. The honey coloured city sits high on a rocky hill overlooking northern Syria. With its history dating back to 4500 B.C. it is rumoured to soon be listed as an UNESCO protected site.
